TokenLock 5.0 and beyond to ditch the app store...

Today we uploaded a new build of TokenLock 5.01 - build 6193 - that will now use the Sparkle automatic updater to keep all users on the latest version.

As a result of the new SandBox rules, Apple will not allow us to use the system we need to enter user's passwords and unlock the screen. This essentially breaks TokenLock under the App Store.

From 5.0 onwards, we are jettisoning the Apple App Store and restoring TokenLock back to how it originally was before Apple started making us remove more and more functionality.

If you have bought or in the future buy TokenLock 4.x on the App store, you can simply install a 5.x version and it will detect the fact that you bought and ran a 4.x version on your  Mac.

Sorry, Apple - you guys are sucking the life out of us developers with your all-or-nothing rules. For TokenLock, we have no choice but to quit the App Store.

Sandboxing breaks the following TokenLock features:

  • Unlocking your Mac (Entering passwords)
  • Detecting which network we are on.
  • Reading the network list (Safe network option)
  • Running applications on lock or unlock.
  • Running shell scripts on lock or unlock.
  • Checking your screen saver and security options.
  • Hotkey locking.
